Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an age hardening ornamental gold alloy with superior hardenability by quenching a gold alloy contg. a specific amt. of Ni and Co, followed by age annealing.
CONSTITUTION: The gold alloy consists of Au; 58W92 wt%, Co; 2W21 wt% and the balance Ni, satisfying the ratio of Ni:Co 6:1W1:1. Pure gold metal is melted in a graphite crucible, and granular Ni and Co are added and melted to refine an alloy of the above compsn., which is then cast in an ingot case made of cast iron. This ingot is heated to 850°C, quenched in quenching oil of 200°C, and age annealed at 420°C for 2 hr in an atmosphere of H2 gas. Thus, a mirror polished alloy is obtd, having very high hardness and an everlasting golden color.
USE: This alloy is suitable for use as the case of a wristwatch since it has ornamental properties, discloration resistance and hardenability.
