Abstract

PURPOSE: To offer a cast iron-made slide member, improved in its abrasion resistance and scuffing resistance, including both of a chilled structure part and an unchilled structure part, by dottedly or stripedly forming a high-hardness chilled structure on a slide surface with laser beams.
CONSTITUTION: The slide surface 1 of a slide member is locally remelted and converted into a chilled structure 2 by laser beams. The chilled structure 2 turns into a fine structure having a high hardness because of its high cooling speed. In addition, a part 3, which is heated at a temperature higher than A1 transition point, is formed at the periphery of the remelted layer, so that the chilled structure 2 is strengthened by the part 3. The chilled structure 2 is dottedly or stripedly formed, and let coexist with an unchilled structure, so as to offer abrasion resistance by the chilled structure 2 and a self-lubricating action and an oil-pocket action by graphite precipitated in the unchilled structure. Consequently, the slide member having both of abrasion resistance and scuffing resistance can be obtained.
