Abstract
PURPOSE: Hexafluoropropene, readily available and low in toxicity, is used as a raw material to effect the reaction with an alkoxide, hydrolysis of the product, reaction with an alkoxide and the treatment with an acid in turn to produce the titled compound used as a synthetic intermediate of hypnotic in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of hexafloropropene of formula I with an alkoxide of ROM (R is alkyl; M is alkali metal) in an alcohol gives 1,1,2,3,3,3- hexafluoropropyl alkyl ether. The product is hydrolyzed in the presence of an acid such as conc. sulfuric acid to form alkyl 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropionate. Further, the reaction of the product with an alkoxide of R'OM (R' is alkyl; M' is alkali metal) is effected in an alcohol and followed by treatment under acidic conditions to produce dialkyl 2-fluoromalonate of formula IV.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of a fluorine-containing organic compound used as a physiologically active substance.
