Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform cleaning of a residual magnetic toner by supplying roughly the same potential as that of the residual potential detected with a potential detecting means detecting the residual potential on an electrostatic latent image carrying body to a magnetic brush forming member. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptor 11 moving in an arrow direction has residual potential and a residual toner. The residual toner is cleaned by a cleaning device 12 consisting of a nonmagnetic sleeve 13, a magnet 14, a magetic brush 15, etc. An electrode 17 detecting the the residual potential is provided in front of a magnetic brush device 16a in proximity to its surface. The detection voltage of the electrode 17 is detected and controlled by a potential detecting circuit 18 and a control circuit 20. Since the voltage roughly equal to the residal potential is applied from a voltage generating circuit 19 to this sleeve 13, always good cleaning is accomplished despite the presence of secular changes and environmental changes.
