Abstract
PURPOSE: A lead glass composition, containing oxides, e.g. SiO2, Al2O3, B2O3, etc. in a given proportion, and particularly a large amount of PbO, and having a temperature viscosity curve with a relatively sharp slope suitable for the blow molding by a machine.
CONSTITUTION: A lead glass composition formed from 50W60wt% SiO2, 0W3wt% Al2O3, 0W8wt% B2O3, 0W3wt% ZrO2, 0W8wt% CaO, 0W3wt% Li2O, 0W15wt% Na2O, 0W15wt% K2O and 20W30wt% PbO. In this composition, the following amounts are essential conditions: 55W65wt% (SiO2+Al2O3+B2O3+ZrO2), 5W 10wt% (B2O3+CaO) and 9W16wt% (Li2O+Na2O+K2O). The lead glass composition has a temperaure viscosity curve with a relatively sharp slope in spite of PbO as much as 20W30wt% contained therein. The glass viscosity range favorable for molding glass by either one of the hand blowing and mechanical blowing is almost constant and 104W107.6 poises.
