Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the title glass having low viscosity, stable in melting and inducing little change in temp. coefficient and temp. characteristics of delay time at around room temp. with the passage of time by blending SiO2, PbO, B2O3 and K2O in a specified wt. ratio.
CONSTITUTION: SiO2 40W53.5 wt%, PbO 40.1W45%, B2O3 5W10% and K2O 5W8% are mixed. 0W1.5% of Al2O3 may be added together with 0W0.5% of As2O3 and Sb2O3 as a clarifier to further enhance the chemical durability and stability. The mixt. is then melted at about 1380°C, agitated at 1300W1100°C, and slowly cooled to obtain glass for an ultrasonic delay line which glass exhibits a long delay time, has a temp. coefficient below 2×10-6/°C at -10W60°C, undergoes little change with the passage of time, and is stable to devitrification.
