Abstract
PURPOSE:To make two pieces of metallic plates produceable simultnaneously under high productivity by constituting a direct rolling type continuous casting plant for metallic plates by using two sets of horizontal rolls. CONSTITUTION:A direct rolling type continuous casting plant for metallic plates are constituted of two sets of water-cooled horizontal roll pairs 11a, 11b and 12a, 12b, wherein the 11a, 12a of the upper step are spaced from each other and the 11b and 12b of the lower step are disposed in such a way that their circumferential surfaces contact. A side dam 21 made of refractories is disposed in tight contact with the side walls of these four horizontal rolls, and molten metal 25 is teemed through a nozzle 22 into the casting space constituted of the four rolls and the two side dams. The upper and lower rolls of both roll pairs are next rotated in mutually opposite directions and metallic plates 20, 20' are rolled continuously and simultaneously through the clearances of both roll pairs and are drawn out with pinch rolls 24. Since the circumferential surfaces of the rolls 11a, 12a of the upper step are wide and are utilized as circumferential surfaces for casting, the rotating speeds of the rolls are increased and productivity is improved.
