Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve optical transmission characteristics in visible-near infrared regions by using a deuterated styrene polymer of which the hydrogen is bound to aromatic rings at <=0.5g in 100g polymer in the value measured by a nuclear magnetic resonance method as a core component. CONSTITUTION:The core component of the deuterated styrene copolymer contg. <=0.5g hydrogen bound to aromatic hydrocarbon in 100g polymer when measured by a nuclear magnetic resonance method at 100MHz frequency is obtained by a method such as suspension polymn., soln. polymn., or the like. On the other hand, a sleeve component lower in its refractive index by at least 0.5% than that of the above-described component is obtained from acrylic or methacrylic acids and their polymers of fluorinated ester or the like. Thence, said core and sleeve components are spun by a composite soln. spinning method or the like using a spinneret for core and sleeve, whereby the plastic optical fiber is produced.
