Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel cell which can feed a rated output after raising its temperature quickly without an external electric power, by providing at least one of the means to feed an oxidizing agent to a fuel electrode and feed a fuel to an oxidizing electrode. CONSTITUTION:A fiber material 21 such as cotton cloth, glass cloth is arranged in a tank 20 which stores fuel 12. One end (a) of it adheres closely to an oxidizing electrode 2 by means of partial adhesion with an adhesive such as a phenol resin, or mechanical pressing, and an other end (b) is immersed into fuel 12a in a tank, but it can be drawn up from the fuel 12a. For operating a cell, the end (b) of the fiber material 21 is immersed into the fuel 12a which reaches the oxidizing electrode 2 by capillary action and heats the oxidizing electrode 2 by function of a catalyst such as platinum or palladium held by the oxidizing electrode 2, and further, a fuel electrode 1 is also heated by heat conduction.
