Abstract
792,265. Electrically-heated panels. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 19, 1956 [March 17, 1955; May 18, 1955], Nos. 7833/55 and 14398/55. Class 39(3) A fabric woven from heat resisting dielectric material, e.g. glass, asbestos &c., and to which a resistance wire is attached or woven, is of corrugated, form and is coated or impregnated with synthetic resin which renders it substantially rigid at and below the operating temperatures. Alternatively one or more coterminous layers e.g. of woven fabric is or are thus coated and applied to the fabric. In Fig. 1 the fabric 1 with a resistance wire 2 is sandwiched between woven fabric layers 5, 6 coated with an unhardened polyester resin, and the assembly is positioned in a press and moulded to form a rigid corrugated element. Terminal wires 3 and tapping wires 4 are connected to the wire 2 so that one or more heater sections may be energized. Other synthetic resin materials such as silicones, phenolic resins and epoxy resins may be used and the hardening may be hastened by an accelerator. A space heater Fig. 3 includes a corrugated heating element 8 within a surround 11, and holes beneath the element allow air to pass upwardly between front and rear panels 14 and to flow over the element. A thermostat controlled by a disc 15 is provided. By using three layers of glass fabric and a synthetic resin which is transparent or translucent after hardening, the heating element may be illuminated by a coloured light.
