Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a long-lived lead storage battery free of the reduction in the pressing degree of elements by using a glass fiber mat obtained by compressing glass mats manufactured by a procedure in which a binder solution is adhered to glass fiber layers and then solidified while pressing and heating them. CONSTITUTION:The glass fibers 1 whose diameter is approx. 19mum, for example, are made into a sheet, and the binder solution 2 of starch, gelatin, a synthetic resin, etc., is adhered to the the sheet in a given amount by spraying, etc., and then solidified while pressing and heating them through heating rollers in a drying chamber. Then, electrode plate groups are made up of the glass mats thus obtained and then housed in a cell while pressing the electrode plate to obtain a storage battery. Thus, a long-lived lead storage battery free of the falling of the active substance of the electrode plate can be obtained because of the use of the glass mat whose thickness is less reduced when dipped in electrolyte and thus whose pressing degree is small.
