Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel rust preventive pigment showing superior rust preventive properties by reacting aluminum dihydrogentripolyphosphate with a lead compound.
CONSTITUTION: Aluminum dihydrogentripolyphosphate is reacted with a lead compound such as lead monoxide in 20:1W1:20 molar ratio usually in the presence of water as a medium. A rust preventive pigment obtd. as the reaction product is applicable to various kinds of rust preventive paint, etc., and a plate to be provided with rust preventiveness by coating is made of ordinary mild steel, phosphated and galvanized iron or the like. Aluminum dihydrogentripolyphosphate used as starting material is prepared as follows: Al or an Al-contg. substance is mixed with a phosphoric acid substance so as to make the molar ratio of P2O5/Al2O3 1W6, and the mixture is agitated with heating at 90W450°C to form an opaque semisolid substance, which is then dehydrated and crystallized by reheating at 300W450°C.
