Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a polyester having improved color rapidly, by reacting a bifunctional carboxylic acid with a glycol in the presence of specific amounts of a Co and a P compounds, and by adding a Ti compound to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: A bifunctional carboxylic acid (derivative) is reacted with a glycol in the presence of a Co compound, e.g. cobalt chloride or acetate, in an amount expressed by formula I (Co is the number of moles of Co atoms per mole of the acid component constituting the polyester) and a phosphoric acid compound, e.g. phosphoric acid or monomethyl phosphate, in an amount expressed by formula II (P is the number of moles of P atoms per mole of the acid component as in Co), and then a titanium compound, e.g. titanium tetramethoxide or salicylate, is added to the reaction system to give a polyester.
