Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, readily and in high selectivity and yield, by the reaction of easily handleable and inexpensive allyl chloride with a specific ester, in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. LiI, and a base.
CONSTITUTION: Allyl chloride is reacted with an acetonedicarboxylic acid ester of formula I (R is lower alkyl), in the presence of a condensed base, namely a magnesium alkoxide, and a catalyst, namely LiI or NaI, preferably in an amount of 5W 20mol% based on the compound of formula I, to give the titled compound of formula II. The addition of the catalyst provides the smooth progress of the reaction and improved selectivity and yield of the mono-substituted compound. The resulting compound of the formula II is very useful as an intermediate material of allethrolone of formula III which is an important intermediate for agricultural chemicals.
