Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between halogenated carboxylic ester, carbon monoxide and alcohol is effected in the presence of cobalt tetracarbonyl anion catalyst to produce the titled compound in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a balogenated carboxylic ester of the formula (X is halogen; R1 is H, 1W3C alkyl; R2 is 1W8C alkyl) such as methyl chloroacetate or ethyl bromoacetate, carbon monoxide and an alcohol is conducted at 30W100°C to give the objective compound wherein cobalt tetracarbonyl ion, which is high active and enough in a small amount, is used as a catalyst and a basic compound such as sodium carbonate or sodium acetate is added to the reaction mixture. The molar ratio of the catalyst to the halogenated carboxylic ester is 1/4W1/100, preferably 1/5W1/50.
