Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve multiplex transmission very simply, by adding a pulse width modulator of an external synchronizing type and a pulse width demodulator to a conventional pulse frequency modulation transmission system. CONSTITUTION:A modulation light in optical pulse frequency modulation includes information only at leading edge of the pulse and includes no information at the pulse width. Taking notice of this fact, an output pulse width in pulse frequency modulation of a pulse frequency modulator 3 is modulated into binary value with a digital input signal at a pulse width modulator 4. This pulse train is received at a receiver 7 and inputted to a pulse frequency demodulator 8 and a pulse width demodulator 9 for demodulation. As a result, the use of a conventional analog signal filter with high performance is avoided, allowing to make multiplex transmission very simply.
