Abstract

A modem data transmission system includes a transmitter section (3, 4) employing a limiter-integrator 8 for limiting integration to only the first bit of each sequence of similar polarity bits in the input binary data of NRZ form so that a signal with three possible slopes (Fig. 2B not shown) results which is processed by an arrangements including pre-emphasis to derive a transmission signal with three states of frequency deviation (+, 0,-). The receiver section (5, 6) filters out the DC and the high frequency components from the demodulated three level output of 5 and converts it via a comparator 21 with hysteresis to a two level binary signal, generates a clocking signal at 22 and synchronizes at 28 the two level binary signal to the clocking signal to reconstruct the original binary data. <IMAGE>
