Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a useful friction material which is excellent in shudder characteristic and does not cause breakage of a clutch by forming a clutch facing for cars in such a manner that the thickness of the inner periphery thereof is thinner than that of the outer periphery by heating and then finishing it up to the uniform thickness in a polishing process.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of forming by pressing and heating half-finished goods which have been rolled in a loop in a well-known method, a metal mold has a convex portion 2b positoned at the inner peripheral side of a friction material in such a manner as to make surface pressure of the inner periphery higher as compared with that of the outer periphery, whereby the half-finished goods can hve higher hardness at the inner periphey b thereof than the outer periphery l1. Just after this, or after heat treatment, the half-finished goods are finished to a uniform thicknes by polishing one side a thereof. A conventional semi-mold method is desirable for manufacturing a friction material except a pressure and heat forming and a polishing process. Measurements a, b for the half-finished goods are a/t ≤0.1, b/l ≤0.5 in order to improve shudder characteristic and breakage of clutch. Forming conditions at time of pressing and heating are temperature between 160° and 170° and surface pressure between 90 and 110kg/cm2.
