Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a Ti slab with superior shape and surface properties by heating a round Ti ingot under a specified temp. condition and flattening and blooming the heated ingot in succession.
CONSTITUTION: A round Ti ingot 11 manufactured by melting and casting is charged into a soaking pit or a heating furnace and heated to 700W980°C. The heated ingot 11 is formed into a flat Ti ingot 31 of a prescribed shape with a press forging machine or a hammer forging machine. The ingot 31 is charged into the soaking pit or the heating furnace again, heated to 700W980°C, and formed into a Ti slab 51 having prescribed dimensions with a plate mill or a universal mill. The preferred rolling reduction per pass during the blooming is about 10W40mm. A hot strip 81 is formed from the Ti slab 51. The Ti slab 51 obtd. by the blooming has enhanced flatness and improved surface properties, and the surface finish is facilitated.
