Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture hot-rolled steel materials at low cost without causing hot embrittlement with excellent heat efficiency by the procedure in which a specific composition of a low-carbon continuous-cast steel piece is gradually cooled and then directly rolled while it is still hot.
CONSTITUTION: A molten steel, consisting of 0.02W0.12% C, <0.20% Si, 0.10W 0.50% Mn, <0.025% S, <0.025% P, and <120ppm of O2(the oxygen content of a sample taken after rolling), with an Mn/S ratio =6 or more, is subjected to a continuous casting to manufacture a steel piece, e.g., steel slab, etc. Then, the steel piece is gradually cooled to 1000W1180°C at an average cooling rate of 0.80W 0.50°C/sec and then, when reaching the temperature, subjected to a hot rolling without reheating to manufacture a steel material. Thus, the occurrence of flaws in the surface of steel due to hot embrittlement caused by low-melting nonmetal impurities such as FeS-MnS-SiO2, etc. and solid-solution type sulfides during the hot rolling process can be prevented, and also no reheating is applied during the hot rolling process, so that excellent heat efficiency can be attained.
