Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the variation in breadth of a coil, by applying an edging process to a strip with one or plural couples of vertical rolling mills, between a crop shear installed on the run-out side of a roughing mill train and a final finishing mill.
CONSTITUTION: Between a crop shear 9 and a horizontal rolling mill 11, or if possible, between two horizontal rolling mills 11 on the down-stream side in a finishing mill train 10, one or plural edging mills 12, respectively comprising one or plural vertical rolls, are arranged. Before a strip, running out of a roughing mill train 6 and passing through the crop shear 9, is finished into a product coil by the finishing mill train 10, the strip is subjected to an edging process operated by the said edging mill 12. The strip is, following to this edging process, subjected to a thickness reducing rolling pass operated by the horizontal rolling mill 11; hereby, the variation in breadth of the coil is remarkably reduced to a smaller value as compared with a value obtained by a conventional method.
