Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the responding speed of an electrochromic (EC) display device using a WO3 film as a display electrode by allowing a catalyst for the redox reaction of WO3 to be adsorbed on the WO3 film. CONSTITUTION:A front electrode substrate obtd. by forming a WO3 film 12 for display on a transparent front substrate 9 having an electrically conductive transparent film 10 and a background electrode substrate obtd. by forming an opposite electrode 14 on a background substrate 15 are set opposite to each other with sealant 15 in-between and an electrodlyte soln. 16 and a light reflecting white plate 17 are sealed in the space between the electrode substrates to manufacture an EC display device. At this time, a layer 18 of a metallic element such as Pd as a catalyst for the redox reaction of WO3 is formed on the WO3 film 12.
