Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrochromic display device that has the improved memory holding time plus the coloring/discoloring response time with the high resistance to the vibration, by filling the electrolyte between a display electrode and a counter electrode made of the flexible graphite. CONSTITUTION:An electrochromic (EC) display device consists of a display substrate 1, a counter electrode 2, a display background plate 3, a back plate 4, the electrolyte 5, a sealing adhesive 6 and a lead wire 7 respectively. For the substrate 1, a display electrode 12 is formed on a single surface of a transparent glass substrate 11 by giving the patterning to a transparent conducting film. Furthermore both an EC material film 13 and a transparent insulated film 14 are formed on the electrode 12 into a desired display pattern respectively. The electrolyte 5 uses the material obtained by dissolving the lithium perchlorate into a nonaqueous solvent such as sulfuric acid in the form of a supporting electrolyte. In such constitution, the flexible graphite containing a metallic mesh buried inside is cut into a proper size with the wire 7 welded to the metallic mesh for the electrode 2.
