Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent an electrochromic (EC) film from being peeled owing to the production of air bubbles on its interface with an electrode, by controlling a voltage applied between the 1st electrode having the EC film and the 2nd counter electrode, and thus operating the EC film in an unsaturated state. CONSTITUTION:A conductive film 2 is formed on, e.g. a glass base plate 2 and an EC film (WO3) 3 is formed on it. Then, a glass plate 5 is connected to the base plate 2 with a spacer 6 between and after an electrolyte 7 is injected through a hole 4 made in the spacer 6, the hole 4 is sealed up by inserting a metallic stylus electrode 4 into the hole. The EC film 3 is applied with a negative voltage so that the amount of charge is not enough for coloring by saturation. When the injection by the amount of charge is repeated until saturation, bubbles of H2 are produced between the electrode 1 and EC film 3 to peel the film 3, but stable long-period operation is enabled in an unsaturated state, improving durability.
