Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove ash partially and granulate coal with a low power consumption and high dehydrating efficiency, by adding heavy oil and a granulating agent to an aqueous slurry of a coal, agitating and mixing the resultant mixture while blowing a gas thereinto, and forming mixed pellets of the coal particles with the heavy oil in a short time.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An aqueous slurry of a coal containing 40W50wt% coal on the dry basis, (B) heavy oil in an amount of preferably 10W15wt%, based on the coal on the dry basis and (C) 0.05W20wt% granulating agent, e.g. various surfactants, are fed from the respective feed pipes 3, 4 and 5 into a mixing tank 1 having agitating blades 2 and mixed with agitation while blowing a gas, e.g. air or nitrogen, from a gas supply pipe 7 to form mixed pellets of the coal particles with the heavey oil. The resultant pellets are then separated from waste water containing ash by a solid-liquid separator 8, e.g. a vibrating screen. The ratio (V1/V2) between the flow rate of the gas V1(l/min) and the internal volume V1(l) of the mixing tank 1 is preferably about 0.5W5.
