The sleeves 6, 7 are shifted by X0 to the left and right respectively against the backup rolls 4, 5 in order to make a gap DELTAy. When a rolling load is loaded on the contact surface between the sleeves 6, 7 and the work rolls 2, 3, the sleeves 6, 7 deflect inwards because of the gap DELTAy, so that the inner surface of the sleeves 6, 7 contacts with outer surface of the backup rolls 4, 5.
