Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable agitation without power and to inhibit the plugging of a transfer opening in a methane fermentation apparatus, by using a fermentation vessel divided into an upper end-closed fermentation compartment and an upper end- opened fermentation compartment and provided with the transfer opening communicating these two fermentation compartments together.
CONSTITUTION: When a fermentable material is charged through a fermentable material-charge pipe 10, the material flows into two fermentation compartments 3, 4 where the charged material is subjected to methane fermentation. Generated gas is reserved in a lower space below a partition plate 2 and inside a covered cylinder 7. When a gas pressure in the lower space rises, part of a liquid 5 to be disposed in the fermentation compartment 3 is pushed by the gas pressure, and transfered through a transfer opening 6 into the other fermentation compartment 4. When the gas is extracted through a gas-extracting pipe 8, the gas pressure in the lower space below the partition plate 2 is lowered, and part of the liquid 5 to be disposed, in the fermentation compartment 4 is reversely transfered through the transfer opening 6 into the fermentation compartment 3. Consequently, the transfer stream of the liquid 5 to be disposed is generated, and agitation in the vessel is done.
