Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a tungsten powder for a tubular globe containing an appropriate amount of potassium by a method wherein tungsten oxide to which potassium added as a doping agent is reduced to a limited oxygen amount in a specific temp. renge and, subsequently, reduced until metallic tungsten.
CONSTITUTION: At lest potassium such as potassium silicate or the like is added to tungsten oxide as a doping agent and the doped tungsten oxide is reduced until an oxygen amount thereof is reached to 10W15% in a temp. range of 550W700°C. Subsequently, the partially reduced tungsten oxide is reduced to metallic tungsten and most of added potassium is dissolved and removed by washing the metallic tungsten with fluoric acid. In this case, a minute amount of potassium invaded into an interior of tungsten is formed into a K-W-O compound on the way of reduction and remained therein. By this method, a tungsten powder containing about 70W150ppm of potassium is easily obtained.
