Abstract
PURPOSE: In the direct fluorination of organic compounds, formic acid containing water is used as a diluent which is inexpensive, readily available and readily separable from the objective compound, thus resulting in high yield, reaction rate.
CONSTITUTION: In the fluorination of an organic compound as uracil with a fluorine gas diluted with an inert gas of 0.5W50 times the volume of the fluorine at -15W50°C, formic acid containing water is used as the diluent. The formic acid containing water contains 0.5W1,000 parts by wt. of water per 100 parts of formic acid and 1mol of the organic compound is diluted with 1W100mol of formic acid containing water.
