Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain impellers made of castings reinforced with fibers easily by casting the same with a mold molded of wax molds for a single vane buried with fibers of aligned directions and wax molds for boss parts. CONSTITUTION:Upper, lower molds 1, 2 have cavities 1a, 1b of the same shape as that of the single vane (a) of an impeller A. A heat-resistance elastic body 4 is mounted in the hollow groove 1b of depth approximately equal to the outside diameter of fibers 3 in the peripheral part of the cavity 1a at the parting face of the mold (can be the mold 2). Long-sized fibers of glass or the like are arrayed at suitable intervals vertically and horizontally in the cavity 2a and the lengths thereof are made somewhat shorter to provide clearances 1c. Next, when the mold 1 is superposed on the mold 2, the elastic body 4 grasps both end parts of the respective fibers by pressure, thereby sealing the clearances between the fibers and the clearances 1c. Thereupon, wax is injected into the cavities, whereby the wax mold (b) of the single vane (a) is obtained. A mold 5 is molded with the plural molds (b) and wax molds (d) for forming boss parts (c), and this is heated to allow the wax to flow out. Molten metal is poured into the cavities 5a, 5b formed in this way.
