Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible casting by material of poor castability in the case of a casting having cavities in its central part, by pouring molten metal through the hole part of a sand core, providing a clearance between said sand core and the bottom surface of the mold space and filling the molten metal into the mold space through said clearance.
CONSTITUTION: A sand core 1 is provided in the central part of the mold space formed by an upper mold 11 and a lower mold 12, by maintaining a clearance 3. There are a plurality of sand core fixing pins 4 in this clearance to hold the sand core. Here, if molten metal is poured through the hollow part 2, as a sprue, of the sand core 1, the molten metal passes through the clearance 3 and fills the mold space and the portion 5 encircled by the upper part of the sand core and the mold wall acts as head. The rate of filling of the molten metal is kept at about 1.5W3.5mm. After the casting, the molds 11, 12 are removed, the portion filling the clearance 3 right under the sand core is cut off and further the core knockout is performed and the head 5 is cut off from the product section.
