Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the conductivity of an electrode, and realize the enhancement of the performance of a battery by using a compound, which is prepared by contaminating graphite layers with an alkali metal, as a conductive agent for the electrode. CONSTITUTION:10 parts of a graphite of about 100 meshes, and 5 parts of an alkali metal such as potassium are mixed, and the mixture is made to undergo reaction at about 300 deg.C in an atmosphere of an inactive gas for one hour, thereby producing a compound between graphite layers. The compound thus prepared is use as a conductive agent for the electrode of an alkaline battery. Since the compound has a high electric conductivity, the conductivity of the electrode is increased, the highrate discharge characteristic and the low-temperature characteristic of the battery is enhanced, and high technical value can be achieved.
