Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time required to retry data writing, by perfoming erasing operation during opposite reading operation for the retrying of the data writing. CONSTITUTION:A detecting circuit 24, when an error in written data is detected, requests a host device 21 to retry data writing. The host device 21 sends an opposite run command to an opposite erasing circuit 26 and a magnetic tape device 22 through an opposite reading circuit 25. At the same time, the erasing circuit 26 sends the command of erasure to the magnetic tape device 23. The magnetic tape device 23 runs a magentic tape reversely to read data, and an incorporated erasing means erases data through the reading circuit 23 until error-occurring data ends. Thus, the data is erased during opposite reading operation to shorten the processing time required to retry data writing.
