PURPOSE:To reduce the errors in generation of synchronizing signals, and make recording to high image quality possible by providing a convex mirror or a cylindrical mirror having a curved face in a scanning direction at the intermediate between an optical deflector and a medium to be scanned, and taking out a beam for the synchronizing signal. CONSTITUTION:Part of the scanning beam which is reflected by an optical deflector and has passed through an ftheta lens is taken out by a convex mirror or a cylindrical mirror 9 and enters a photodetector 7. The output thereof is converted to the synchronizing signal consisting of the synchronising pulses generated at the rise of the photodetection signal by way of an amplifier and a comparator. Thereby, the errors in the generation of the synchronizing signal are reduced and the recording of high image quality is accomplished.
