Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the thermal strain and improve yield and reliability of a cathode-ray tube, by applying hard glass of small thermal expansion coeffient to the portion of a glass bulb in which thermal strain is apt to be created. CONSTITUTION:A panel 10 is made of hard glass of which thermal expansion coefficient is, for example 80-50X10<-7>, and a funnel 2 and a neck 3 are made of soft glass. As thermal expansion coefficient of the panel 10 is larger diferent from that of the funnel 2, both can not be welded together by heating. Therefore, metals 12a, 12b with thermal expansion coefficient equal to that of the panel 10 and the funnel 2 respectively are welded to the panel 10 and the funnel 2 respectively, and both glasses are fixed together by means of soldering glass 11a, 11b. The metal 12a is copal or the like, the metal 12b is Nichrom or the like, and both are previously welded airtightly before the deposited to the glass mentioned above. Thereby, thermal strain is reduced by about a half, and the brightness of a picture can be remarkably raised.
