Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the barreling of a rolled ingot without declining the thermal efficiency and rolling efficiency, by forcibly water cooling the surface of a middle zone of the ingot at an early stage of a rolling process for an ingot incompletely solidified to a prescribed solidification percentage. CONSTITUTION:At rolling an incompletely solidified ingot, that is at an early stage of a rolling process for an ingot of a 70-80% solidification percentage, the surface of the middle zone of the ingot is forcibly water cooled in order to rapidly grow a solidified outer shell near the unsolidifed metal of the ingot. The cooling zone in the ingot is located at almost middle of longitude and is set in about 300- 500mm. width. By the present method, the energy consumption is saved by a non- heating rolling process and the segregation of component elements is reduced, and besides, the barreling is prevented so that the product shape is improved.
