Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance performance of a torque converter by dividing into clutch element located in the vertical surface and a detainer ring to be fixed liquid-tighly on the external circumferential edge and constituting so that no change will occur in the frictional engagement state with the housing made by the detainer ring.
CONSTITUTION: A fluid type torque converter 1 is composed of a pump impeller 2, a turbine runner 3 and a stator 4, where the peripheral edge of the pump impeller 2 is fixed to the exterior part of the housing 8 having a pilot 6 and a coupling nut 7 and the impeller 2 is coupled to the inputs shaft, i.e. output shaft of engine, through the pilot 6 and coupling nut 7. The turbine runner 3 is fixed by a revet 11 to the turbine hub 10 which is spline-fitted on the output shaft 9, i.e. input shaft of speed change gears. The stator 4 is coupled to the stationary shaft 13 through a one-way clutch 12.
