Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent both a remarkable reduction of imparted torque and a direct influence of the variation of engine torque to the output shaft by obtaining both torque transmissions through the fluid and the clutch.
CONSTITUTION: In a lower area of the velocity ratio, the rightward thrust TB acting on the vane 6a of the turbine 6 of the torque converter 1 is greater than the leftward thrust TA acting on the outer shell 6b, the turbine 6 moves toward the pump 4 in the right side. Thus torque is imparted from the input shaft 2 to the output shaft 3 by the rotating effort MB acting on the vane 6a through the inner fluid. On the other hand, when TB becomes less than TA due to the increase of velocity ratio, the turbine 6 moves toward the housing 5 in the left side and the friction clutch 8 is linked. When the speed difference between the pump 4 and the turbine 6 is extinguished by linking the clutch 8, the circulation of inner fluid is stopped.
