Abstract

The torque converter ensures that no noise is generated in the drive gears. The converter is compact and eliminates use of additional control system for actuating the direct coupling of converter and drive. A turbine (6) is able to slide axially on output shaft (3) in a housing. The turbine is arranged in a position between a pump (4) and housing (5) on the other side for connecting the pump (4) with the input shaft (2). A friction clutch (8) between the turbine and either the housing or the pump is actuated to ensure coupling by the sliding movement of the turbine in either direction. This movement is generated by the differential pressure force acting on the turbine blades.
