Abstract

A reduction in axial length and improved reliability are features of this form of hydro-mechanical transmission for cars. The drive is transmitted from the input shaft via a casing to a vane type fluid drive and thence via an epicyclic gear train to the output shaft. a clutch is also incorporated in the drive. The main feature of the design is that the epicyclic system is mounted inside an oil filled enclosure instead of outside as is usually the case. This reduces the axial length of the unit. forward and reverse drives are provided and also a neutral point where both coupling are disconnected.
