Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a molded feed containing a maximal amount of raw fresh fishes easily, by adding a mixture of sodium alginate with a polysaccharide, a vegetable substance, etc. to whole fish bodies in the form of small masses or minced meat uniformly, adjusting the shape of the mixture and treating the resultant adjusted mixture in a solution of CaCl2.
CONSTITUTION: Raw fresh fishes, e.g. a sardine or mackerel, are previously cut or crushed finely in the form of small masses or minced meat, and a mixture of sodium alginate with a polysaccharide, e.g. dextrin, and a vegetable substance, e.g. defatted soybean, in a small amount is mixed with the resultant crushed or minced fishes as uniformly as possible and allowed to stand for a while. The resultant sol-like substance is then finely crushed or milled to diffuse the sol solution of the sodium alginate into the crushed or minced fishes and produce the tackiness thereof. The resultant substance is then molded into a filamentary, rod-like form, etc. The molded material is introduced into a dilute solution of CaCl2 while retaining the shape thereof and allowed to stand for a while. Calcium alginate is then produced slowly from the surface to gelatinize the material and give a solid material which is not easily collapsed. The resultant material is drained and used as a feed for aquatic animals, e.g. a young yellowtail or prawn.
