Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a cold rolled steel strip with clean surfaces by a simple method wherein a cold rolled steel strip is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere and then it is annealed in a reducing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The cold rolled steel strip is heated to a temperature of 400-500 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere, and an oxide film of about 300-10,000Angstrom in thickness is formed on the surface of the steel strip, as required. Then, the steel strip is annealed in a reducing atmosphere so as to prevent the formation of smudges or graphite stains. Accordingly, a cold rolled steel strip having clean surfaces can be produced.
