Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain heat-treated steel strip of good surface behavior by heat-treating a cold rolled steel strip under a proper condition in a direct heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:A cold rolled steel strip is heated, without cleaning treatment, e.g., electrolytic cleaning, etc., in a continuous heating process using a direct heating furnace to burn off rolling oil present, where the thickness of oxide film on the surface of the steel strip after direct heating is regulated to less than AAngstrom by controlling temperature and/or air ratio. Subsequently, the oxide film is erased in a reduction process. The proper condition used is a region surrounded by the curves A, B, and C and the air ratio line of 0.8 as shown in the Fig.
