Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a cylinder liner high in bonding strength and excellent in abrasion resistance and sliding property by mixing a copper based alloy into a mixed powder of an Al-Si alloy and graphite when cold-molding and hot-molding the mixed powder under a hydrostatic pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed material of an Al alloy powder containing 10W26wt% Si with 1W 30wt% graphite powder and 0.5W10wt% Cu or Cu alloy powder is colded molded under a hydrostatic pressure. The cold-molded body is then hot-molded under a hydrostatic pressure at a temperature of 450W600°C to obtain the cylinder liner. Consequently, the oxide film on the surfaces of the Al alloy particles is removed by reacting it with Cu, and the diffusion of Al atoms is activated. When the Cu or Cu alloy content is below the lower limit, the effect of removing the oxide film can not be obtained and, on the other hand, when the content is above the upper limit, a sweating phenomenon and an abnormal expansion may take place. The cold molding under a hydrostatic pressure is conducted because the mixed material can be easily molded at an ordinary temperature and a homogeneous product can be obtained. When the hot molding under a hydrostatic pressure is conducted at a temperature of below the lower limit, the effect of Cu on the removal of the oxide film can not be obtained and, on the other hand, at a temperature of above the upper limit, coarsening of Si particles or deformation of the product may occur.
