Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate connection and alignment by using a couple of housing having butt surfaces for butting free terminals of many couples of optical fibers with adequate gaps, and a fitting core having matching streak grooves for aligning the fibers to each other. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 2 and 2' having formed ferromagnetic material films 1 and 1' are fixed prescribed length away from optical fiber end surfaces 3 and 3' to constitute optical fiber movable pieces 5 and 5' incantilever beam shapes. Jackets 10 and 10' are fitted in housings 9 and 9'. Optical fiber end surfaces are polished to be aligned to the butt surfaces 12 and 12' of the housings, and a core 7 having streak grooves 8a for matching is inserted into the housings to butt both the housing until the butt surfaces. Magnets 6 provided on the reverse surfaces of the streak grooves attract the ferromagnetic material bodies and the fibers are pressed into the streak grooves to the aligned. The alignment is possible without magnetic force with some structure of the core.
