PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive solid-state image pickup device in which the use efficiency of light is high, by forming a photoconductor layer with photoconductive materials that trigonal selenium corpuscles are dispersed in the binder polymer. CONSTITUTION:A diode is formed on a p type semiconductor substrate 10 by an n<+> type region 11. A p<+> region 12 as a potential barrier and an n<+> region 13 as a potential well are formed. Further, the first gate electrode 14, an insulating material layer 15, a gate oxide film 16, a diode electrode 17, and a stopping layer 18 for electron or positive hole are provided on these regions. A main photodetecting part consists of a photoconductor layer 19 that trigonal selenium is dispersed in the binder, and a transparent electrode 20 is formed on this part. Thus, a solid-state image pickup device is obtained which has a high use efficiency of the light per a unit area and is inexpensive.
