Abstract

PURPOSE:To make water levels measurable with high accuracy with simple construction by disposing gamma-ray heating elements consisting of gamma-ray absorbing materials disposed in multiplicity at prescribed intervals within a vessel, and measuring temp. differences of these gamma-ray heating elements. CONSTITUTION:A housing tube 3 having through-holes 6 provided at prescribed intervals gamma-ray heating elements 12 having temp. detectors and a gamma-ray detector guide tube 7 are inserted in the vertical direction in a nuclear reactor pressure vessel 1 contaning a core 2 therein, and the outputs of the respective temp. detectors are connected via cables 14 to a temp. measuring circuit 16. A gamma-ray detector is provided to the leading end of the cable driven by a driving mechanism 11, and this gamma-ray detector moves within the tube 7. The elements 12 having absorbed the gamma-rays released from the core 2 are cooled in the furnace water but the elements 12 existing on the outside of the water surface are difficult to be cooled and therefore if the temp. differences of the gamma-ray heating elements are measured with the temp. detectors, the position of the water level is measured and it is possible to measure gamma-ray intensity distributions as well with gamma-ray detectors 9.
