Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an unbalanced moment from exerting on a main bearing and reduce the weight of balance weights by a method wherein the parts on both sides of a journal part where the crankarms are at 120 deg. from each other are fitted with blance weights which have a total weight of one half of that used in the case of fitting on the 180 deg. opposite side. CONSTITUTION:Six crank pins 121-126 are provided at positions trisecting the circumference of a 120 deg. crankshaft 11, and the crank arms 131-1312 on both sides of each pin are fitted with balance weights 141-1412, respectively. Referring to the balance of the second journal part 152, the loads exerted on the journal part are the half L of the load on the pin side exerted through the arms 132, 133 on both sides of the journal part and the loads due to the weights w of the balance weight 142, 143, and the directions of the loads are such that the directions of the arms 132, 133 and the balance weifht trisect the circumference of the journal part. Accordingly, the loads exerted by unbalanced moments on the main bearings 161-167 are equal, and the total weight of the balance weights is 4W+8w=8W, namely, the total weight is reduced to 2/3 of that in the conventional design.
