PURPOSE:To improve the quality, etc., of a liquid crystal display element by reducing the quantity of light reflected by a transparent electrode by constituting an electrode substrate by providing the transparent electrode and a dielectric thin-film layer, each having specific refractive index and film thickness, successively on a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION:On a transparent substrate 2, a transparent electrode 3 is provided. To reduce harmful reflected light reflected by the transparent electrode 3, a dielectric thin-film layer 4 is provided on the transparent electrode 3 by vacuum deposition, sputtering, etc., to constitute the electrode substrate 1 of the titled liquid crystal display element. In this case, when the refractive index of the transparent substrate 2, the refractive index and geometric film thickness of the transparent electrode 3, and the refractive index and geometric film thickness of the dielectric thin- film layer 4 are denoted as n0, n1 and d1, and n2 and d2, n0<n1, n2<n1, and liquid crystal refractive index <n2; and values n1d1 and n2d2 are as shown by equations I and II (lambda is designed wavelength, and N1 and N2 are optional positive integers).
