Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare acetal in high selectivity and yield, under mild conditions, by reacting an aldehyde or ketone with an alkoxysilane using iodotrimethylsilane as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An acetal (e.g. benzaldehyde-dimethyl acetal, cyclohexanone ethylene acetal, etc.) is prepared by reacting an aldehyde (monoaldehyde or polyaldehyde, e.g. benzaldehyde) or a ketone (monoketone or polyketone, e.g. cyclohexanone) with an alkoxysilane in the presence of iodotrimethylsilane catalyst (0.001W 0.8mol, pref. 0.01W0.2mol per 1mol of alkoxysilane).
EFFECT: The separation of the product from by-products, siloxane, solvent, etc. is easy.
